Angel Has Fallen Tops Box Office for 2 Weeks

“Angel Has Fallen” is still on top.

That thriller from Lionsgate and Millennium remained first at the box office this weekend, bringing in about $11.6 million from Friday through Sunday. It helped that there wasn’t a single major newcomer to threaten its position. The movie is expected to sell around $2.9 million more in domestic tickets on Labor Day.

“Angel Has Fallen” stars Gerard Butler, who reprises his role from “London Has Fallen” (2016) and “Olympus Has Fallen” (2013). He plays a Secret Service agent who has to prove his innocence after he is accused of orchestrating an attack on the president (Morgan Freeman). The cast also includes Jada Pinkett Smith and Danny Huston.

The angel will almost certainly fall next weekend, when “It Chapter Two” hits and likely takes over theaters. This weekend, though, a handful of holdover titles scraped for sales.

Coming in second place was Universal's “Good Boys,” an R-rated romp that had the year’s largest opening total for an original comedy in August. It sold about $9.2 million more in tickets this weekend, its third in theaters. The movie’s plot revolves around a trio of profanity-spewing preteen friends.
