True Grit road to the TOP and overcame Little Fockers to become the first No. 1 film of 2011, Box Office Mojo reports. The Western remake, starring Jeff Bridges, collected an estimated $15 million. The film surpassed the $100 million mark and became the most successful film ever by the writer-directing team of the Coen Brothers. Little Fockers came in second, grossing $13.8 million to lead to a total of $124 million. So far the third film has not been able to live up to its predecessor, Meet the Fockers, which had grossed more than $200 million by this time. Newcomers Season of the Witch and Country Strong offered a mix bag. The former, starring Nicholas Cage, drew $10.7 million to come in third. Tron: Legacy and Black Swan followed in fourth and fifth place, grossing $9.8 million and $ 8.35 million, respectively. Country Strong, headlined by Gwyneth Paltrow, failed to make the top five. The drama collected a weekend total of $7.3 million to rank sixth. Rounding out the top 10: The Fighter (No. 7, $7 million); The King's Speech (No. 8, $6.8 million); Yogi Bear (No. 9, $6.8 million) and Tangled (No. 10, $5.2 million).
